WORKCOVER & WORKERS COMPENSATION COUNSELLING
Neo_Native Counselling & Psychotherapy provides counselling to individuals recovering from workplace-related injuries, psychological distress, trauma or stress. We understand that a workplace injury can affect more than just your ability to work — it can also impact your confidence, relationships, emotional wellbeing and overall quality of life.
As a SIRA-approved provider in NSW, we support workers experiencing psychological difficulties associated with workplace incidents, injuries, ongoing workplace stress or challenging work environments. Our approach is compassionate, collaborative and tailored to each individual's needs, with a focus on emotional recovery, building resilience and supporting a sustainable return to work where appropriate.
HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP:
Workplace-related experiences can have a significant emotional impact. Counselling can provide a safe and supportive space to process these experiences, develop coping strategies and work towards recovery.
Support may include:
Workplace trauma and distress – processing difficult or distressing workplace experiences.
Anxiety and stress – managing worry, overwhelm, panic symptoms and ongoing stress.
Psychological injury – support with the emotional impacts of a workplace-related psychological injury.
Low mood and reduced confidence – rebuilding self-esteem, motivation and a sense of control.
Workplace conflict and challenging experiences – exploring the emotional impact of bullying, conflict or other difficult workplace interactions.
Coping and emotional regulation – developing practical strategies to manage distress, strengthen resilience and improve day-to-day functioning.
Recovery and return to work – addressing emotional barriers to recovery and supporting confidence and wellbeing as you consider returning to work or adjusting to workplace demands.
Counselling is tailored to your individual circumstances, needs and recovery goals. Our approach draws on evidence-informed, trauma-informed and person-centred therapeutic practices. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) may also be considered where clinically appropriate to support the processing of distressing or traumatic experiences.
REFERRALS & ACCESSING COUNSELLING:
We work collaboratively with workers, GPs and insurers as part of the workers compensation treatment process. If you have a work-related psychological injury or are experiencing emotional difficulties following a workplace incident, speak with your GP about whether counselling may be appropriate for you.
As part of the referral process, treatment eligibility and any required insurer approvals will need to be confirmed before commencing appointments. Once these arrangements are in place, we can discuss your needs, treatment goals and the next steps in your recovery.
FEES & WORKCOVER PAYMENTS:
For eligible workers with an accepted NSW workers compensation claim, approved counselling treatment may be funded by the relevant insurer in accordance with applicable SIRA requirements and fee schedules.
Please contact us to discuss the referral process, confirm the requirements for your claim and arrange an appointment. We can help clarify the information needed to get started and work with you towards your recovery goals.
WORKCOVER COUNSELLING – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. Do I need a GP referral?
Yes. Under the NSW workers compensation scheme, a referral from your nominated treating doctor is required before counselling can commence. Your GP can assess your needs and provide a referral for appropriate counselling support.
Before your first appointment, your workers compensation claim and eligibility for treatment funding need to be confirmed with your insurer. Any required treatment approvals must also be in place.
If you are unsure where to start, speak with your GP or contact us to discuss the referral process.
2. Will WorkCover cover my counselling sessions?
Counselling may be funded through your NSW workers compensation claim if you meet the relevant eligibility requirements and the treatment is approved or otherwise eligible for payment under the scheme.
Funding depends on your claim circumstances, the nature of your injury, your eligibility for treatment expenses and any applicable insurer approval requirements. Coverage is not automatic, and a referral alone does not guarantee funding.
We recommend confirming your eligibility and treatment arrangements with your insurer before commencing counselling. We can discuss the information needed to help you get started.
3. What are the fees for WorkCover counselling?
For eligible workers receiving approved treatment under the NSW workers compensation scheme, fees are determined in accordance with the applicable SIRA Workers Compensation (Psychology and Counselling Fees) Order and relevant practice requirements.
The applicable fees depend on the type and duration of the consultation, the service provided and the relevant SIRA requirements. We can discuss the applicable arrangements with you or your referrer before treatment begins.
For current fee information, please refer to the official SIRA fees for workers compensation health services page.
4. Can I access EMDR through WorkCover?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) may be considered as part of your counselling where clinically appropriate, particularly when working with distressing or traumatic experiences associated with a workplace injury.
Suitability is assessed on an individual basis, taking into account your circumstances, treatment goals, readiness for trauma-focused therapy and clinical needs. The use of EMDR will also need to meet the applicable workers compensation treatment and funding requirements.
If you are interested in EMDR, we can discuss whether it may be an appropriate option as part of your recovery.
5. Do you offer telehealth counselling?
Yes. Telehealth appointments are available via secure video consultation, providing an option for workers who prefer to access counselling remotely or find attending in person difficult.
Telehealth may be suitable depending on your individual circumstances, clinical needs and treatment goals. We will discuss whether online counselling is appropriate for you and confirm any relevant insurer requirements before commencing treatment.
If you would like to enquire about a telehealth appointment, please contact Neo_Native Counselling & Psychotherapy to discuss availability and the next steps.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Neo_Native Counselling is an evidence based, person-first therapy practice and we have significant experience working with participants supported by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Our philosophy towards therapy involves removing ourselves from the expert position, to simply sit with our clients, as just another individual with an open and curious mind. It is our goal to work with our clients in developing the skills to understand, cope and overcome challenges now, and in the future.
If you have Capacity Building - Improved Daily Living included in your NDIS Plan, then you have the option to utilise your funding for counselling at Neo_Native Counselling.
Please note, as we are not a NDIS registered provider, we do require all of our participants to be self or plan managed.
All participants choosing to access our counselling service through their NDIS plan are charged in accordance with the current NDIS Pricing Arrangement (2026-2027). As current, individual counselling is provided as a Capacity Building support at the rate of $156.16 per hour (item number 15_043_0128_1_3, or item number 15_606_0118_1_3 for Early Childhood Intervention).
